LCVP

The Leaving Certificate Vocational Programme is designed to give a strong vocational dimension to the Leaving Certificate and was introduced into our school in 1996.It is a two year course that involves the study of Link Modules and the following of a recognised course in a modern European language .It has been very advantageous to students down through the years in preparing them for adult life by developing skills and qualities that they will need when going on to further education, seeking employment or planning to start their own business.

Programme Requirements

Students take their seven Leaving Certificate subjects (at higher, ordinary or foundation level) French does not have to be selected.

Two of the above subjects must be selected from one of the designated Vocational Subject Groupings.

If French has not been selected as a subject for the Leaving Certificate then students must follow a recognised course in a modern European language as part of their LCVP course.

Link Modules

Preparation for the world of work: Involves developing job-seeking skills such as preparing CV’s, interview techniques, career investigation and gaining practical experience by doing work experience.

Enterprise Education: Involves setting up mini- businesses, organising visits-in by and visits-out to local businesses, developing teamwork communication and computer skills.

From the above a portfolio of coursework is prepared.

Assessment

The Link modules are assessed by:

Written Paper 40%
Recognised by Universities and Institutes of Technology
80%-100% Distinction 70 Points
65%-79% Merit 50 Points
50%-64% Pass 30 Points

Vocational Subject Groupings

A list of these groupings is given to third-year students by the Career Guidance Counsellor when discussing subject choices for the Leaving Certificate. The LCVP Co-ordinator will then further discuss the groupings when giving a presentation to students on LCVP.         Some students may not be eligible to do LCVP based on the subject choices they make as they may not be compatible with the Subject Groupings.
